This month’s blog is eclectic , to say the least. We are covering everything from martinis to musical instruments, recipes and jokes.
Before heading over to Maui, we thought it would be fun to write on a few interesting things to do and see right here in Arizona. Namely, The Musical Instrument Museum and a sampling of the best Martinis in town. Yeah, I know, it’s a tough job but somebody’s ‘gotta do it.
In our new Pull My Fingerpost, we will be sharing jokes from around the web. If you have a joke or funny story to contribute, submit it to: [email protected]
Here is a great recipe that you can make in 30 minutes or less. I fooled around with this a few different ways and settled on the ingredients and techniques listed.
What you need
A large frying pan
4-boneless pork chops 1-1/12″ thick (you could use 8-1/2″ bone-in chops but, they won’t make good sandwiches the next day)
salt and ground black pepper
4-cloves of garlic
1-23.5 oz jar of Prego Italian Sausage & Garlic. (O.K. I know some of you purists might gag on this. But, trust me, it works great. If you can’t bring yourself to use gravy out of a jar, use 1-can of peeled, crushed tomatoes, 1-can of tomato paste.)
Without a doubt, The MIM is one of the crown jewels of Phoenix. There are so many instruments and costumes to see and experience from around the world that it is impossible to see them all in one day. We were only able to experience two of the exhibit halls on our visit. We chose the USA Gallery and the Artists Gallery.
One of the best displays is of the Steinway Piano Factory. You can enjoy a wonderful video and see first hand, a breakdown of all the major component parts of a Steinway.
There was also a wonderful exhibit of the manufacturing process for Martin Guitars and an extensive exhibit of Fender musical instruments.
Downstairs in the Artists Gallery Hall is the piano on which John Lennon wrote the iconic song “Imagine”. Other great displays included Women in Jazz, Country artists, Hip Hop artists, Pop stars and so much more.
And, of course, there is the gift shop featuring a wide variety of music related items and jewelry from around the world.
The Cafe Allegro serves a variety of international dishes, snacks and beverages.
If you live in Arizona or are visiting, The MIM is a must!
An elderly man in Louisiana had owned a large farm for several years. He had a large pond in the back. It was properly shaped for swimming, so he fixed it up nice with picnic tables, horseshoe courts, and some apple and peach trees.
One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn’t been there for a while, and look it over. He grabbed a five-gallon bucket to bring back some fruit. As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee.
As he came closer, he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny-dipping in his pond. He made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep end. One of the women shouted to him, “we’re not coming out until you leave!” The old man frowned, “I didn’t come down here to watch you ladies swim naked or make you get out of the pond naked.”
Holding the bucket up he said, “I’m here to feed the alligator…”
Some old men can still think fast.

Why did I get divorced? Well, last week was my birthday. My wife didn’t wish me a happy birthday. My parents forgot and so did my kids. I went to work and even my colleagues didn’t wish me a happy birthday.
As I entered my office, my secretary said, “Happy birthday, boss!” I felt so special. She asked me out for lunch. After lunch, she invited me to her apartment. We went there and she said, “Do you mind if I go into the bedroom for a minute?” “Okay,” I said. She came out 5 minutes later with a birthday cake, my wife, my parents, my kids, my friends, & my colleagues all yelling, “SURPRISE!!!” while I was waiting on the sofa… naked.
